Avellana is an evergreen tree, which grows up to 20 metres in height. It is the only species currently classified in the genus Gevuina. Its composite leaves are bright green and toothed. Its flowers are very small. The fruit it bears is a dark red nut which turns black as it matures. The oil of obtained from this nut. Gevuina oil is used for its moisturising properties and because it is a source of omega 7 fatty acids.
